We are thrilled to announce our upcoming Pottery Camp.

This year’s event promises to be an inspiring day filled with creativity and learning. We are honoured to have renowned potters Linda Bloomfield and Emily Stubbs among our guest speakers, sharing their expertise and insights. The camp will feature a variety of workshops, including raku firing, throwing techniques, surface decoration, and hand-building, catering to all skill levels.

We invite all attendees to participate in the Joan Hardie Award competition. This years theme is ‘Light and Shade’ and we look forward to seeing your entries on 12th October. In addition, we will host a Potters’ Choice Award and attendees will be invited to vote for their favorite entry.

Our event is proudly sponsored by Potclays, who will be providing the clay for the workshops, and Northern Kilns who will be available to help with any kiln-related questions. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with fellow potters, expand your skills, and enjoy a day dedicated to the art of pottery.

Light refreshments will be available; tea, coffee and biscuits . This year, we ask participants to bring their own packed lunches. There is a local supermarket nearby, for those who would rather pick something up on the day.

Dont forget to bring a mug for our ‘Mug Swap’. There is also an opportunity for a materials & equipment swap.

We can’t wait to see you there!

Q & A

Will you serve lunch?

Light refreshments will be served, including coffee, tea and biscuits. We ask participants to bring their own packed lunch. A local shop is nearby for those who want to buy something on the day.

How can I sign up for one of your workshops?

We will provide a list on the day and participants will be able to sign up for one workshop on the day on a first come first served basis. During the day, if any places become available, these will be offered.

What workshops will you offer?

Our day will start with a talk by Linda Bloomfield and a demonstration by Emily Stubbs. After lunch, we will hold a short AGM followed by a wheel-throwing, a sgraffito and printing surface decorations, hand-building an ocarina and a raku firing workshop.  You can sign up for them on the day.

Will there be someone to answer questions about firings?

Yes, Northern Kilns will be on hand to answer any questions about kiln management and firing you may have.

Will there be parking on-site?

There is ample parking in front and behind the community centre. There is also plentiful on-street parking available. Menston train station is a 10 minute walk away with trains running from Leeds and Bradford on a regular basis.

What is the mug swap?

This is a lovely ice breaker and we invite attendees to bring a handmade mug which can be swapped with another potter’s creation in a fun game setting. Be prepared for a bit of fun.

What is the Joan Hardie Award?

Each year in honour of our past Chair, Joan Hardie we host a competition. The theme  this year is ‘Light and Shade’. This will be judged by one of our guest speakers for which there is a splendid prize to be won. Please bring your entry on the day.

What is the Potters’ Choice Award?

For the first time this year, we ask all attendees to vote for their favourite entry in the Joan Hardie competition (please bring your entry as mentioned before). There will be another prize for this award.

What is the material swap?

In light of the discussion on circular ceramics from last year and avoiding waste, we would like to introduce a material swap. If you have any unwanted ceramic materials, e.g. pots of glaze, oxides, raw materials, tools etc. please bring them along and help yourself to something more useful to you.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Ramps to the main doors and automatic doors provide easy access for all. Toilet facilities are available too.
