Experimenting with materials and techniques to add colour, pattern and figurative elements to functional pottery – producing an aged patina, playing with time and memory. I work mainly with terracotta clay, terra sigillata slips, lithographic printing and digital transfer techniques.
My current practice continues to explore the point where craft meets art – the transition from aesthetic to narrative. Nostalgia for early childhood memories from the 1960’s and 70’s is an important element for me in developing an original style. The language of nostalgia delivers a commentary on modern living as it continues to embed consumerism in our culture and accelerates social and environmental decline.
I studied ceramics at Hastings College and following a series of shared studios established West Hill Pottery in the Hastings Old town in 2019, producing original tableware and decorative pieces. Later studying for an MA in Creative Practice at Cumbria University in Carlisle.
