Westergaard, Hanne

In the process of making, what interests me is the way an idea develops. Ideas for something can come from many sources, but then have to be adapted to the material.

Ceramics can be so many things, and working in clay over many years, my circumstances and interests have invariably led to changes in the things I make. I started out making functional pots for the home and later for the garden, and I was happy with that, until I started to feel pulled toward making non-functional sculptural pieces. My current work is inspired by my garden and allotment.

I watch the wonderful development of seedpods and vegetables and these inform the shapes and decoration of my pieces.
