Pearson, Richard

I studied Fine Art at Nottingham College of Art and after a further year at London University in 1966 started what was to become a long career in teaching art and design. It was during a sabbatical year from teaching in 1986 that I first started to develop my pottery throwing skills; to practise the ‘art of the potter’ and experiment with different clays, glazes and firings.

In a small studio, above the River Derwent in Derbyshire, my pots are thrown on the wheel, mainly using stoneware clay and based on traditional and classical shapes; with form and function largely influenced by past cultures. Much of my work is then fired in the wood-fired kiln at Thoresby Park.
