Magson, Philip (IM)

Having previously produced terracotta and white earthenware pots with specific commercial intentions, I am now making the sort of pots that primarily please me. I have always admired the American abstract expressionist artists of the 50s and 60s alongside Neolithic/Bronze Age pottery with its nonuniformity and carved or raised patterns and motifs. I like making functional ceramics that retain the rough qualities of clay and loose, somewhat haphazard decoration using slips and simple glazes. My pots are all thrown on the wheel but are gradually receiving greater attention by way of sprigged embellishment and mark making post throwing.
