Fowell, Melvin

My work often reflects an inquisitive nature, with the “what if” leading to both experimentation and distraction. The end result is an eclectic mix of styles and surfaces drawing inspiration from the natural world. Hand built and fired to earthenware temperatures or less, pieces have an individual character reflecting both material and process. Highly burnished sagger fired pots aim to fit the hand, while multi layered and textural work seeks to draw the eye toward ever finer detail, but then, temptation for the new never stays in the box for long.
